This past weekend (March 18-March 20), Kanye West and his DONDA team opened up an exclusive pop-up shop the SoHo area of New York. Held at 83 Wooster St. in a very small and minimal venue, the shop turned out to be very successful as fans lined up for hours eager to get their hands on Mr. West’s latest The Life of Pablo merchandise. The same merch that was sold at West’s recent Yeezy Season 3 fashion show/album release event, was also sold at the pop-up such as tees, hoodies, and hats, in addition to some new pieces including custom Pablo denim jackets, and Alpha Industries’ bombers. Prices ranged from $35 for a beanie – $400 for a jacket.
The lines were insane. Customers lined up for approximately 7-8 hours as lines crowded the sidewalks of Wooster Street this weekend. The NYPD was called into action to help facilitate the line. Some people up as early as 4:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon, nearly 24 hours before the shop opened its doors. Inside the shop, the clothing pieces were simply displayed on a rack for exhibition, and in order to avoid an in-store frenzy, customers were directed to a staffed counter in which they would pick the pieces they desired off of a small, laminated catalog indicating the clothing prices. Many customers bought the complete collection as receipts reached up to $1000. We can only hope from now on that West will open up more pop-ups in the future so that people around the world will have a better chance, but for now, it’s the waiting game, or resellers are your best friends.
